NEW FACILITIES AND TRAINING OPPORTUNTIES LIMRA OFFERS AT DAVAO

LIMRA, which has been giving counseling sessions along with all types of help to the students who aspire to pursue their medical education abroad, is providing new facilities and training opportunities from this academic year, which are never even thought of by such other educational agencies in India. They are:

All Foreign-qualified doctors have to get through a Qualifying Examination called Foreign Medical Graduates Examination, conducted by Medical Council of India. Then only they will be permitted to practise as doctors in India. All medical graduates find it difficult to get through, as there is a break in their studies. In order to find out a solution, LIMRA has been conducting coaching classes from last year onwards in Chennai.

LIMRA students will have these coaching classes totally FREE of cost. So far one has to spend around Rs.75,000 for these classes at Delhi.

In order to make these classes fully effective hassle free, LIMRA is establishing its office at Davao Medical University. LIMRA is the only agency in India that runs an office at the Philippines to take care of its students. This office will take care of the MCI Coaching classes and render all help to the newly admitted students. It will assist in the renewal of Visas, arranging air travel to India, fulfilling the needs of the students by liaising with the Medical University authorities. While the parents of the students visit Davao, this office will help them feel at home.

LIMRA is also taking efforts to give training on Hospital Administration and Clinical Treatment to the students when they study at Davao. For this, steps are being taken with the 100 year old Brokenshire Memorial Hospital (BMH), Southern Philippines Medical Centre and San Pedro Hospital at Davao.

LIMRA will also conduct coaching classes for PG Medical Entrance Examinations (NEET- PG) along with Prof Dr. J.Rajkumar, (Ex Chairman of Surgeons Association of India, Founder of Lifeline Group of Hospitals (Lima) at the Hospital itself. Our renowned Professor in Medical Education Dr. C.M.K. Reddy has consented to guide these classes.

LIMRA is also building up a library with modern equipment and books for the FMG and NEET PG students.

It is to be noted that no other educational Agency in India is providing all the above facilities both at Davao and in India, for its students.

ANATOMAGE TABLE

A DIGITAL TEACHER

What are the distinctive beneficial features of Medical Education in the Philippines?

Anatomage Table is the latest digital equipment which has revolutionized the teaching of Anatomy and Surgery in Medical Education. This tool is found in less than hundred colleges in the whole world. Davao Medical College is the only Medical College in the Philippines that has the “Anatomage Table”. Mohamed Ghani, Director LIMRA during his visit, was wonderstruck by the use of the Anatomage Table in the classroom and in the hospital. He made an interview with the Dean of Davao Medical College regarding this tool. Some excerpts from the interview are given here ->

A Mohammed Ghani: How do you say that this Anatomage Table help the medical students to learn in a better way? Dean: In teaching the concepts of Anatomy in Medical Education, the Anatomage Table is a boon for both the students and the professors. The Anatomage Table is a combination of unique hardware and software for the educational community. The form factor resembles an operating table or hospital bed and the real patient contents perfectly illustrate the anatomical realism of a living human.

The Anatomage Table can be used directly during lectures since it connects to projectors. Instructors can create and demonstrate procedural material, making lectures more dynamic and engaging to students. The Anatomage Table is an excellent supplement or replacement to cadaveric studies. With the segmentation features, each system or anatomical structure can be separated and reviewed individually.

This advanced tool is found in less than 110 medical colleges in the whole world. Its dimensions are 86”x28”x33”. We have installed it at a heavy cost in order to make our teaching more effective and communicative. It is also used to explain the diseases of the patients.

The Anatomage Table offers a precise knowledge of human anatomy. This knowledge helps the student’s learning when he views and learns the parts of a cadaver or the patients.

Davao

Mohammed Ghani: If this Table offers all these possibilities, then the students will not see a real part of a human body at all. Will it be a good learning system?
Dean: Yes, you are correct. The student does not stop their learning with this tool alone. He switches over to a cadaver and confirms what he has learnt from the Anatomage Table. Moreover, our medical university is attached to five hospitals with 3,200 beds. They are all multi-specialty hospitals where the students get trained with real patients who suffer from many ailments. The Anatomage Table offers a precise knowledge of human anatomy. This knowledge helps the student’s learning when he views and learns the parts of a cadaver or the patients. So, the Anatomage Table is a complete educational tool; but that does not matter that a student has to stop with that. The student moves, later on, to learn with the real patients and used the knowledge he gained through this Table.

Davao

Mohammed Ghani: Quite interesting. How does it help the patients?
Dean: A software called “Invivo5” is embedded in the Anatomage Table. This is based on Radiology. A patient can be made to lie down on this table; the doctors and the patient's relatives can see the x-ray vision of any part of the patient’s body. Thus all can view how the particular part of the body is affected by a disease. We can see the body from different angles. They can be recorded and could be explained to the patient himself. When a fracture of a bone occurs or a part of the body is affected by the cancerous growth of the tissues, they can be shown to the patient. We can also inform the proposed treatment to the patient and how it could cure the affected part of the body. This Anatomage Table keeps a library and we can take out study cases analogous to a patient’s illness and make out a comparison for the better understanding of the disease of the patient.

Mohammed Ghani: Do we have problems with the present method of understanding the parts of the body by using a cadaver? How does the Anatomage Table solve the problems?
Dean: So far, the medical students used to cut off the parts of the body of a dead person, which we call ‘cadaver’. It is very difficult to get dead bodies. Moreover, to keep the dead bodies in a better condition, we have to use Formaldehyde, methanol, phenyl and other solvents. Now with this digital tool, we are free from such chemicals.

Mohammed Ghani: What are the other safe and modern functions that this tool offers?
Dean: The Anatomage Table can be used directly during lectures since it connects to projectors. Instructors can create and demonstrate procedural material, making lectures more dynamic and engaging to students. The Anatomage Table is an excellent supplement or replacement to cadaveric studies. With the segmentation features, each system or anatomical structure can be separated and reviewed individually. The size of the sample of a cadaver cannot be maximized or minimized. But with the Anatomage Table, we can magnify a part of the body to any extent based on the screen size. The teachers can demonstrate to students of all ranges the location and functions of stents, clamps, implants, and grafts. The 3D patient scans can be cut and rotated in any direction to truly show medical devices in a new and intuitive way. Further, one can learn about a part of the body repeatedly as many times as he wishes. This is the best feature that we have.

Mohammed Ghani: You said about a library in this Table. What is it?
Dean: The digital Anatomy Library that comes with this tool has over 120 pathological examples. It features rare and clinically relevant data sets of real patients. Each patient case comes with a full radiology report to give context to the student. The 3D patient scans can be cut and rotated in any direction to truly show medical devices in a new and intuitive way. The Anatomage Table opens any medical imaging data and provides high quality interactive 3D renderings. Whether it is your own scan or one of the Digital Anatomy Library cases, the Table shows full 3D anatomy that can be intuitively controlled. Anatomy and radiology can now be seamlessly introduced and integrated into the same course.

So, the Anatomage Table is a complete educational tool; but that does not matter that a student has to stop with that. The student moves, later on, to learn with the real patients and used the knowledge he gained through this Table.

SIMULATION LAB

A Simple & Effective Education Tool

A newly designed digital tool called “SIMULATION LAB” is being used in a few Medical Colleges in Western Countries. This is established and installed at a high cost at Davao Medical College in order to make the teaching of Surgery and Concepts of Medicine highly effective. Any number of repetition can be had in learning and practising the surgical methods, thus making the learning thorough.

Mohammed Ghani: What are the special features of Simulation Lab in teaching and learning medical subjects?
Dean: If the medical students want to learn about a disease or about a part of the body damaged due to disease or accident, the students have to wait till they come across one such patient. Moreover, the permission of the patient has to be obtained at first. If permission is denied, learning cannot take place.
In order to avoid such occurrences, the Simulation Lab is designed. When the trainee pilots learn the art of driving the plane, they do it in a virtual atmosphere where they learn the concepts of flying through a virtual experience in a simulated atmosphere. In the same way, the Simulation Lab comes with recorded data about all parts and their function. Almost all types of diseases are also available through the actual data collected worldwide and stored here. Any medical student who needs to know and learn about a disease or part of the body, can select the particular file and learn it thoroughly.

Mohammed Ghani: How can we teach a surgery through this simulation lab? It will be an artificial one, isn’t it?
Dean: When a student wants to know how a surgery could be conducted on a particular part of the body, this simulation lab provides the image of that particular part as a virtual reality. The student can conduct a surgery on it. He will experience the part of the body being cut and the blood coming out of it. But there will not be actual blood. He can continue to make surgery operation as he does with the real patient. The Simulation Lab also guides the student till the end.
Inserting a tube in the vocal cord, making connections in the breathing veins, fixing a stent in the heart veins etc can be done as many times as the student wishes to. This cannot be done repeatedly with the real patients. Another added advantage is that the Simulation Lab reminds and guides the student till he does it perfectly right.
That is why those who use this Simulation Lab learn the surgery in a thorough manner. Late they use this learning with the real patients and become successful in the surgery procedures.

THE MASTER STROKE FOR CLEARING FMG SCREENING EXAM

Mohammed Ghani
Director,
LIMRA

I proudly take this opportunity to thank all those who have participated in the Felicitation function conducted at the eve of last month, to congratulate the sixteen Foreign educated Doctors who successfully got through the MCI FMG examination in their first attempt itself. I thank those who personally appreciated the efforts of LIMRA Overseas Education for taking the initiative in conducting coaching classes for the first time in South India, at Chennai. We brought many experienced Professors in the medical field from various cities to conduct these classes. They accepted our invitation and helped us throughout the course, not minding with the small inconveniences. They have made the classes richer by their well-prepared class notes in the form of many books. The model examinations they devised and the scholarly feedback they gave to the students on their performance have produced 100% result. I thank from my heart all the Professors who helped us to have these coaching classes with great success.

We Make Our Students Happy

Some of our Student's Success Stories

Dr. Joshua (167/300)

I got groomed up as a doctor only due to the ever lending helping hand of Limra and its Director Mohammed Ghani. After completing the course, landing at Chennai, I joined the Coaching Classes Programme of Limra. Senior experienced faculty from all over India, well designed study materials for all 19 papers, weekend examinations, counseling on the performance of the Model Examination at month ends all these in a period of five and a half month took me to the winning post of getting through the exam at first go.

Dr. Divya (191/300)

The MCI - FMG Qualifying Examination has been an insoluble riddle for many of the doctors who have finished their UG studies abroad. But Limra Overseas Educational Consultants at Chennai through its intensive coaching classes in a period of five and half months solved the problems. Regular revision of all 19 subjects, combined with the clinical experience schedule at a Multi Specialty Hospital gave me confidence and I got through at the first attempt itself.

Dr. Irin (150/300)

If at all, somebody is responsible for my stature here as a doctor, it is our beloved Mr Mohammed Ghani and his team of administrative staff. Years back, when I missed admission in the medical colleges in Tamilnadu by a few marks, we approached Limra. Mr Mohammed Ghani explained to our family the positive sides of learning medicine at DMSF, at Davao, the Philippines. My parents and others were taken aback at the very idea of sending a girl abroad for studies. But Mr Ghani assured us of a very safe place at Davao. Years rolled on. I felt quiet at home when I was at DMSF.

Dr. Sanafer (154/300)

The Russian University gave me a degree in medicine, but it is Limra that made it meaningful and useful by their coaching classes programme for the MCI FMG exam. I felt fresh learning of the entire Medical UG course with Limra’s intense coaching on all the 19 subjects, Limra also gave me clinical experience in a Multi Speciality Hospital in Chennai and it made me to get a new practical version of the subjects. All these made me get through the FMG Examination with flying colours.
