Let me tell you a little more about the MD program in all American Institute of Medical Sciences (AAIMS)

A student who qualifies for the MD program has to procure the pre-requisites of passing with 60% in the 12th standard in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. This MD program starts with a bang with a 5, 16-week semesters in Jamaica and the sixth semester is in Jamaica/USA. The initial couple of years of the curriculum focus on courses in the Basic Sciences and their application to clinical medicine. Semesters start in the months of January, May and September, and any student can begin his study in any of these semesters. In addition to the lectures in the class rooms, laboratory work and learning which is problem based; students also make community and hospital visits, practice the practice of history taking from patients and physically exam the patients in Clinical Simulation Training rooms on the college campus. Upon the successful completion of all these five semesters, students receive intensive training to pass the US Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE Step 1) in their sixth semester with an option to receive this training at the Jamaican campus or the campus at the USA. Students are required to pass the Step 1 of the USMLE to make their entry into the third year of the Clinical Sciences of MD Program. The Clinical Sciences program takes place in the 3rdand the 4thyears. In these years students get trained in how to take care and study the progress of patients in the hospitals. The training comprises of clinical rotation of 96 weeks in both core and elective subjects. Once the required clinical rotations are completed, students are required to pass the Step 2 of the USMLE and the CS exams. After completion of the third and the fourth years, the students graduate with this MD degree and having successfully passed the USMLE exams, 2CK and CS graduates receive ECFMG certification that makes them eligible to participate in the Residency Matching Process in the USA.

The total credit of 48 hours of the different subjects is:

Internal Medicine: 12 // Surgery : 12 // Family Practice : 06 //O&G : 06 // Pediatrics: 06 // Psychiatry : 06. And the elective rotations are of 32 weeks.
